Musings

  • Before the rumors start to spread, I need to make a few things clear:
    • Yes I climbed a tree.  I used a ladder to get into the branches and then went up about ten feet.
      • I was trying to bring down a fallen branch that was hooked up there so that it didn’t fall and impale somebody.
    • Yes, I fell out of the tree.  It was about 8 feet and I slowed my descent by catching the last branch and holding on for dear life.
      • I may or may not have bounced against several other branches on the way down, but that’s beside the point.
    • Yes, I landed on my feet and did not fall over.
      • I even remembered to flex my knees, for which I am proud of myself.
    • No, I did not injure my right shoulder.
      • I injured that shoulder decades ago.  The correct word to use is “re-injured”.
    • No, I did not go to the hospital to get checked out.
    • Yes, I have full use of my arm.
      • No, I am not gritting my teeth to do so.  Not much, anyway.
    • Yes, I did some self care.
      • Two Aleve and a grapefruit seltzer
  • In totally unrelated news, Irish Woman has started casting “Banish to Urgent Care” at me every fifteen minutes or so.  Thus far, I’ve made my saving throw against it, probably because of my +2 Amulet of Pigheadedness.
  • I watched my little brother graduate from college over the Internet this afternoon. To nobody’s surprise, they mispronounced his name.
    • Oh well, his degree’s just as good with or without an announcer who can be arsed to find out how to say a name that’s not Hispanic or Anglo-Saxon.

    Hey DB;

Yep that +2 save can come in very handy. Looks from the story, you rolled a “1” on your dexterity and a “20” on your save when you grabbed the branch.

Just curious, but what’s the damage per round for falling out of the tree? D4, D6, D8, D10 or D12?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I am not a fan of heights, nor am I a fan of paying someone else to do things I can make myself do.
Years and years ago I was up a tree doing some pruning at our first house.
I had tied a rope to the branch that I was going to cut so that my wife could pull the piece away after I cut it with a pruning saw.
I told her to take a strain on the line, and she noticed that she could make the tree move if she really pulled on the rope.
She then discovered that if she pulled, released, and repeated, she could make the tree oscillate.
Shortly after she began her experiment in the laws of physics, I dropped the saw, wrapped all of my limbs around the main trunk, and began screaming “Stop that!” using a pitch of voice quite similar to that of a frightened little girl.
    Not my proudest moment.

Remember any “re-injury” always hurts worse the 48 hours after you have re-injured the body part in question, and, second, any lady whose name includes the word Irish has her own large supply of pigheadness.

A hot shower, and aleve (with food) will help, but if it is still bad, or gets worse, go to urgent care, or your doc, and get it checked!! You will want to do other things with that shoulder sometime soon, I am sure.

Yep, give it a couple of days for ‘all’ the muscles, etc. to check in with their various injury reports… sigh
