Musings

  • I have come to the conclusion that our local grocery store is becoming a place where people who do not cook go to get food.
    • Their section of frozen meals that just need a few minutes in the microwave is larger than the produce area.
    • The coffee shop gets more traffic than the bread aisle, and they’re remodeling to add an asian cafe and a barbecue joint.
  • Boo’s school has a program where students read books, then take on-line quizzes about them.  Each book is assigned a certain number of points based on its reading level.
    • Boo’s goal for the year was to get 25 points on these tests.
    • Today, he surpassed 127 points by taking the test for The Hobbit.
    • I may have created a monster.
  • It is rarely a good thing to report “Well, it’s not good, but we’re better than we were yesterday.”

  1. Go Boo!

    That’s the best kind of monster to create! With a splendiferous vocabulary, too, by the time he’s worked his way through Tolkien!

    Hey DB;

    The local Kroger,Ingles and Publix have done the same thing and I occasionally go through there getting a sandwich or chicken tenders.
    My son for the last 3 years at elementary school had the highest scores for books read, he had over a million words read. Harry would go into my military books from wars, history and tactics.and read those plus the classics. I had a few Parent teacher conferences on those books, lol. Encourage the monster, and slide in “Defense of Duffers Drift” or “The iliad” and don’t forget 1984 and animal farm when he is a bit older. I knew that I done good with my son when he was asked in junior high “what is the difference between a socialist and communist”, and he replied “The difference is a socialist is a communist that hasn’t found his AK and the will to use it.” Well that one got me another parent teacher conference. and yes I claimed that one, LOL You will have more adventures…Trust me

    Reading has been one of the things that I have continued to enjoy all of my life, and has opened doors into worlds I could never have imagined.
    I was wrong when I thought that retirement would let me catch up on my reading, I am discovering that the more I read, the more I find to read!
    Boo has begun a wonderful journey.
    Well done to his parents.
