Me no brain today, all stuffed with cotton.  Go read good writers!

  • Jay and Matt are absolutely correct – If we segment ourselves and only look out for our own personal interests, then we are simply asking that someone come along and take us down one notch at a time.  We have to hang together, for we will surely hang separately.
  • Michael Z. Williamson expands on something I quoted a while back.  Those who demand that we stand up for their rights, and to whom we’ve given support, should be shoulder to shoulder with us now that our rights are being threatened.  If they don’t respect our rights, even if they disagree with how we exercise them, why should we make the effort to defend theirs?
  • Sean is making a list of gun companies that are refusing to do business with states that suppress gun rights.  York Arms just crossed that line, and I hope they are far from the last.
  • CJ gives us some information on PTSD from someone who is dealing with it.  Ladies and gentlemen, if you need help, get help.  We need all the good people we can get, and letting yourself be destroyed by this or even worse, hurting yourself or someone else, will take you away from your family, friends, and the rest of our tribe.
  • B sends us to The Polemocist, who does an excellent job reasoning out why gun rights should not be a liberal or conservative issue, because we all depend on all of our rights.
  • John Lilyea reminds me why I’m glad that the units I train with at Fort Knox use weapons that have been modified to make it impossible to fire real ammunition.  Even the best checking will eventually miss something.

“use weapons that have been modified to make it impossible to fire real ammunition” – Remember Brandon Lee. Shit can still happen. I hope part of the safety check for what you do involves a peek at the chamber to make damn sure that parts are not broken or swapped out accidentally.

Umm, daddybear71, many but not all training at Knox with SIMs use the 9mm. Some times we see 5.56 sims. I’m not 100% certain but unfired rounds certainly LOOK like the would interchange with ball.
And we’ll not get into when I’ve seen gunners on the 50s having to cycle it manually every round because they forgot to install the blank adaptor.

True. I was talking about the M-4’s which is usually get shot with. But yeah, sometimes I wonder if anyone did the checks on the other equipment.

      Are you going out tonight?

I was there morning, day and night, and then a bt more morning.
And to make clear on my other post, some units firing M-4s at us are using 5.56 sims. Not all unit budgets are created equal when it comes to training aids nor do all have the same priorities.

Ouch, that’s a lot of time out there. Good on ya for volunteering to go out there so much!

I did last evening’s missions out at Zussman. I try to get out there one night after work a month, and on the rare occasions that they schedule a weekend, I always try to sign up. It’s just hard to get time out there with the kids and work and all.

I see your point about about unit budgets. I’m worried that the budget cuts in the defense department are going to have a negative impact on places like Zussman. I like to think that the training there is rather novel and valuable, and if the units can get it before they go overseas, it helps them get the job done safely and come home with fewer casualties.

Thanks for the comments and hope you stick around! Hope to meet you in real space out at Knox!
