Today’s Earworm

Today I remember my childhood.

Today’s Earworm

OK, last one of the “Movie Soundtracks of my Youth” series.

I must have listened to this one about a million times when I was a sophomore in high school.  It was the last gasp of top 40 music for me before we moved to California and I discovered both alternative rock and hippie chicks.

This time, we’re going back to Junior High.  I remember just about killing myself trying to pedal my bike as fast as I could because this song got my heart pumping.

Sorry OldNFO, they didn’t make any music videos featuring P-3’s.

Continuing our movie music from earlier days, this one is from “The Crow”.  I started listening to The Cure after we moved from North Dakota to the Bay Area, and I’ve never stopped.  Yes, it’s moody, dark, and cynical music, but then again, so am I.

My ipod seems to be stuck on soundtracks from the 1980’s and early 1990’s, so I thought I’d pick a few of my favorites.

This one is from “The Lost Boys”.  Everytime I watch this movie, I get homesick for Monterey.  Lost Boys was shot across the bay at the Santa Cruz boardwalk.  I must have spent about half of my Friday or Saturday nights up there during the spring and summer of 1990.

Today, instead of a link to a video, I thought I’d do something original that’s been running through my head for a few days.  Enjoy!

Mausers and Mosins
With bayonets so long,
Rifles and pistols
That ring the gong,
Garands with clips
that eject with a ping,

These are a few of my favorite things!

Rugers and Smiths
and Glocks and Springers,
Tannerite and Boomerite
and blackpowder lead flingers,
AK’s and AR’s
All railed up with bling,

These are a few of my favorite things!

We’ve gotten over four inches of rain in the past 36 hours, according to the rain gauge my neighbor keeps on his deck.  The Ohio River is almost out of its banks, and the creek that’s at the bottom of the knob we live on is backing up into the Valhalla Golf Course.  I’m not too broken up about that, but I hope everyone who lives down by the water here in Kentucky and Indiana are doing OK.

The best part is that it’s supposed to rain hard off and on until Thursday.  If it gets much swampier in our back yard, I’m going to have to start watching for gators.

Today’s Earworm

Been reading “Bloodlands” lately, and this song keeps running through my mind, especially the line “Rewritten history, then burned all the books”.  A review of the book will be forthcoming once I finish it and have time to think, but suffice it to say that the more I learn about Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, the more I’m so very thankful we won World War II and the Soviets gave out before we did in the Cold War.

Today’s Earworm

I’m spending the evening watching Sesame Street with Boo, so I thought I’d drag you all down with me.
