If you’re a believer, there are two things you have to do to atone for any transgression.  First, you must come to grips with what you have done and how it impacts your relationship with $DIETY.  Next, you have to admit your error and make amends with the people you have harmed.  Without the first, the second will do little to assuage your inner guilt.  Without the second, the first is hollow and superficial.  Yes, God forgives, but you must also ask the forgiveness of your brothers and sisters, and you must face the music in both the physical and spiritual worlds.

Pain is a daily companion, and it has been for years.  The snap, crackle, and pop of getting out of bed is quickly followed by the creak of joints and the soreness of old injuries.  I’m more fortunate than a lot of people.  I have access to treatments and medicines which will keep me going, and after a couple of hours it’s just background noise, not a crescendo of discomfort.

I’m also fortunate because this is something that’s come on slowly over a couple of decades.   I know people where it came overnight, or even in the blink of an eye.  I have everything I was born with, and many don’t.  My pain is inconvenient, but for some its debilitating.  My pain will last me decades.  There are people whose pain will only last a few more years, and they wish for longer.

It’s okay, it’s just pain.  It could be a lot worse.

It’s go, time, citizens.  If the incumbent on your ballot has shown that they don’t trust you to act like an adult, then it’s time to show them the door.  If they support your beliefs, then reward them with your vote.  If a ballot initiative will increase government in any way, I ask that you vote against it.  If it increases the scope of your rights, then I ask that you vote for it.  In other words, if the people who want your vote have betrayed you, or if someone wants to increase oppressive government, then vote accordingly

If you are a registered voter and haven’t been out to the polls yet, get off your butt and do it.  You still have time to get your sample ballot, do a little research, and make your vote.  Is your vote going to make as much impact as a snowball rolling downhill?  Probably not.  But you get enough snow going down the mountain, and it will sweep away anything that stands against it.

If for no other reason than you can look yourself in the mirror and say “I did what I could”, please go out and vote.

Why are we fascinated by the macabre?  Movie monsters, sparkly vampires, and zombies, not to mention just plain old slashers and boogiemen, make up a huge percentage of our entertainment.  Our legends and fairy tales include tales of murder, cannibalism, and unspeakable evil.  What causes us to stare so long into this abyss?

Every person is going to fear different things.  Creepy crawlie things that make Irish Woman turn homicidal don’t bother me, but she’s OK around snakes, while I’m in the “kill them all and let Set sort them out” crowd.  One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned was to accept that others are afraid of things that don’t bother me.

It never fails to amaze me that some people can only answer facts with anger.  Feelings seem to trump knowledge, especially when it comes to anything where the sides are pretty much black and white.  Being able to make an argument and back it up with facts makes me unfeeling, cold, and probably racist.

Oh well, I’ve been called worse.  If I’m going to lose, I’d rather lose because my facts were too precise than that my feelings weren’t sufficiently deep.

Freedom is difficult.  To stand up, take care of yourself and your family, to go to the job, and to protect all of this, takes more than you have some days.  How easy would it be to let it all go, to rest?  The trap of comfort and ease holds bait that is so sweet and fragrant, but it hides the poisons of stagnation and decline.  No true free man or woman will accept charity when they can provide for themselves.  Any true free man or woman will spit in the eye of someone who tells them to kneel before the will of a tyrant.

Guys, treat her like she’s a queen, because to you, she is.  Let’s be honest, most of us are lucky that the lady in our life talked to us in the first place.  The fact that I’ve been with Irish Woman and she’s only tried to kill me on a couple of occasions is absolutely remarkable.  Make sure she knows how grateful you are for the fact that she doesn’t murder you in your sleep.
