- It’s nice to have a day when just about everything lines up just perfectly when you’re trying to get away for a week off.
- I’m not sure what the unemployment numbers look like this week, but when I was driving through a light-industrial area of town today, I saw a lot of “Help Wanted” signs.
- It looks like manufacturing, welding, and small engine repair skills are in demand.
- Tritium sights, where have you been all my life?
- It’s one of those “Why would anyone want to spend that kind of money for sights? Ah, I get it now.” kinds of things.
- My goal for the next week – Get to the family reunion without spending half a paycheck or needing marriage counseling.
- We must be doing something right. Boo turned down pineapple sherbet tonight in favor of fresh strawberries.
- It’s supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow with intermittent rain. Irish Woman wants to know when we moved to Costa Rica.

/ June 13, 2014After five years (!) out of the workforce (long story), I dreaded trying to find a job relying solely on 7 years of welding nigh ten years ago (15 years previous job:7 welding, 8 running machinery; laid off in ’09)
The *one* place I applied to directly for a specific welding job was tripping over themselves to try and snap me up!. They let me come in for three days, and practice a weld I’d never had to do before in order to pass the required test to be hired.
I’m not sure I’ll ever be ‘worried’ about being able to find a job again…

/ June 14, 2014We’ve got lots of similer help wanted signs here. The problem is none of them want to train. So although (for example) I’m not sure I’d be physically up to such jobs, none of them want to even look at me because I have zero experience in such. One local place even lists “6months experience”, which isn’t exactly alot of experience, but refuses to budge on it.
