Thought for the Day

Scout Oath (or Promise)

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly,
courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
brave, clean, and reverent.

I thought these would be appropriate, considering today is the anniversary of the beginning of the Scouts.

    They are fine words that I find myself reciting usually multiple times a week these days in my roles a leader.

    Interesting related item is that just the other day the BSA announced they are getting rid of ALL other oaths/laws etc and standardizing on these traditional boy scout ones for everyone. Today, there are slightly different ones for Sea Scouts, Venturers, and Cub Scouts. But starting 2014 they are all going to stop using those and all use the traditional boy scout ones. Its going to be a challenge to get young 1st grade cubs to learn them but I think it is a great idea with lots of merit to go that way for the future.
