Hell hath no wrath like that of a woman who is trying to make two beautiful butter cakes with caramel icing for the church picnic and is getting no cooperation from any entity in the known universe, especially the cakes.

/ August 10, 2012My imagination is in overdrive, and I hope you have the good sense to collect the critters and kids and go to the show for a few hours. When you get home, send your least favorite kid in ahead of you as an advanced scout. Wait for the reaction then conduct yourself accordingly.

/ August 10, 2012The kids were in bed or going to bed at the time, and she was raving at the gods about fallen cakes and uncooperative icing. To me, they looked just fine, but she’s a bit of a perfectionist.

/ August 10, 2012The night before the twins’ fourth birthday, I was baking a cake in a special 3-D duck mold (a friend found it for me, and sent it just for kicks, knowing Medium’s love of her duckie), and finally got around to icing it around 1 a.m. When the cake proved to be off-balance, and started to careen sideways and mess up my icing, I was nearly in tears. Poor Hubby. At least he was able to prop the thing up with toothpicks, so that it didn’t fall apart completely.
It still tasted yummy.
