Quote of the Day

Two thousand years ago the proudest boast was civis Romanus sum [“I am a Roman citizen”]. Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is “Ich bin ein Berliner!”… All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words “Ich bin ein Berliner!” — President John F. Kennedy, 26 June, 1962.

Mind translating that for those of us who don’t sprechen?

TinCan – “Today, I am a Berliner. When someone says that he loves freedom, then he is a Berliner. When someone wants to live in peace, then he is a Berliner. When we work for peace and freedom, then we must say “We are all Berliners”.

      Christina – Danke

Julie – Mine was quite rusty. I can read it, but it took me a bit to figure out how to say that in a way that approaches “correct”. Also, I can never figure out how to put umlauts over vowels.

I can’t do umlauts, either. For whatever reason (maybe because I have VISTA ), none of the shortcuts for umlauts and eszetts work for me.
