Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. — Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam

/ June 1, 2012My Take – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – It’s not the equipment, it’s the person using it. A machine will let you work more efficiently, but it isn’t a substitute for the skills you need to do the job. If you don’t know how to do something, be it write a letter, drive across the country, or hit a target without a machine telling you how to do it properly, you need to practice more. A GPS is not a substitute for a compass, map, and training. A word processor is not a substitute for learning how to spell and use good grammar. And an electronic scope that figures out where to aim based on distance to the target, temperature, and wind is no substitute for learning breathing control, proper trigger squeeze, and getting a good sight picture.

/ June 1, 2012Substitute political machinery for thinking machinery and I see a parallel to our current situation. Nanny state laws, laws preventing something that might be bad, laws dictating what is acceptable speech.
It may be closer to anarchy then to control….but I prefer each person thinking for themselves. Deciding based on a common moral code what is acceptable behavior or not.
